Subscription tiers, moving a lifetime PRO license to a new phone, and restoring purchases

What do PRO and PRO+ unlock?

My Cars is free to use forever, with no ads and no time limit — all the core tracking, charts, reminders, and local backup are included. Two optional subscriptions add more:

  • PROreceipt scanning (Snap-to-Log, 5/month), Dropbox cloud backup, advanced search, budgets, data export, and PRO dashboard cards/widgets.
  • PRO+ — everything in PRO, plus more receipt scans (50/day), multi-cloud backup (Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive), Intelligent Insights, total cost of ownership, professional reports, and advanced widgets.

I’ve used the app for years with a lifetime PRO license — how do I keep PRO on a new phone?

It depends on how you originally obtained PRO. There are three cases:

1. You had the “MyCars Pro Key” app and linked it to your account

Just sign in on the new phone with the same Google account: open Menu > Settings > Subscription. Your lifetime PRO is restored automatically — nothing to pay.

2. You had the “MyCars Pro Key” app but never linked it

Reinstall the MyCars Pro Key app on the new phone using the same Google account that originally bought it. It reinstalls for free from your Google Play library (under Manage apps & device → Manage → Not installed / Purchased). Once the key app is back, PRO is recognized again.

💡 While you’re set up, open Settings > Subscription > Link Your PRO Access and tap Link Account. This ties your lifetime PRO to your Google account, so on future phones you can skip the key app entirely — just sign in. After linking, you can safely uninstall the Pro Key app.

3. You had the earlier PRO that was unlocked by enabling ads

Unfortunately, this older ad-supported PRO is not supported at this time, and it can’t be carried over to a new device. We’re sorry for the inconvenience. You can continue on the free tier, or move to a PRO / PRO+ subscription for cloud backup and advanced features (see the Pricing page).


How do I know which case I’m in?

  • If My Cars shows PRO features today and you don’t have a separate “MyCars Pro Key” app installed, your access is most likely already linked to your Google account (Case 1).
  • If PRO works only while a separate MyCars Pro Key app is installed, you’re not yet linked (Case 2) — reinstall the key app on the new phone, then link your account.
  • If you remember unlocking PRO by turning on ads rather than installing a key app or subscribing, that’s the legacy ad-supported PRO (Case 3).

How do I restore my PRO or PRO+ subscription on a new phone?

Subscriptions are tied to your Google account, not the device:

  1. Install My Cars and sign in with the same Google account you used to subscribe.
  2. Open Menu > Settings > Subscription.
  3. If it isn’t already active, tap “Already subscribed? Tap to restore.”

Your subscription and all its features come back automatically.


Can I unlock PRO by watching ads?

No — unlocking PRO by enabling ads is not supported at this time, and older ad-unlocked PRO can’t be transferred to a new device. PRO and PRO+ are available as Google Play subscriptions, and existing lifetime PRO licenses (from the MyCars Pro Key app) remain valid forever.
